In 1991, in Chicago, Illinois, Eric Smith founded a company that would primarily serve the information systems needs created by the burgeoning network technology industry.
In 2002, Mr. Smith rebranded the company Consultants of Network Technology Open Source Offerings (Contoso).  He remained full owner of the company and is still today its chairman of the board of directors. Headquartered in Chicago since inception, Contoso has evolved through growth and branding from being an IT services consulting firm into a managed service provider of specialized Intellectual Property(IP).
